Chinese Superstitions!

We are moving in a few day's time.

Friends and family (chinese friends) advised us not to move at this time, as I am pregnant, and it is also the seventh month in the lunar calendar. It is all about Chinese superstitions and old wives tales. Being a Chinese, I did feel quite reluctant to arrange the move during this time, whereas Sugar is more relaxed and he follows logic, not superstitions.

Nevertheless, I have looked up electronic Tung-Shing from the internet to make sure that the date is suitable for the move. It is more like for peace of mind rather than being nagged on by the old parents.

Old parents have warned me about some tasks that a pregnant woman should not do, eg, do not nail, do not carry heavy stuff, do not get too involve and also do not show my face when heavy furnitures are moving into the house. I am going to do just that, and Sugar and his mates are going to do all the hard work. My jobs are packing my own stuff and label the cartons....

We continue with our plan and make sure I do not get over tired and over-stressed with the move. Little B is sure to do fine and I bet little B will feel as excited as daddy and mummy!

Boxes, cartons and lots of paper bags

No, there are no shoppings. It is the preparation for the move that I have packed most of my things. Some fragile items such as my photo Cds, photo albums, photo frames and my accessories like earrings and things like that are exclusively packed in paper bags only. I will carry all the paper bags into my car and do the loading. I do not trust anyone to help me with those paper bags. They are not exactly heavy. It's ok.

I am at my fourteen weeks, and I feel tired easily. I guess I need at least a10-hour of uninterrupted sleep each night to call it a good night's sleep!

The move is keeping me busy.

Busy....work, packing, moving, shopping for the new house...etc.

I am especially tired these days, I am at my thirteenth week of pregnancy. The bump is showing, and I am not feeling comfortable when those not-so-close friends making remarks about my pregnancy. I would normally ignored them and turned away not wanting to engage in further conversation with them!

I really do not like it when others trying to tell me what to expect, especially the fact that I have read so much about pregnancy and I know my body so well.

I do not like to listen to shallow comments like I should not eat certain fruits or certain seafood. These are all plain superstitious and no scientific logic. I also hate shallow minded female friends keep asking about the gender of the baby and start making comments to compare the pros and cons of having a girl/ a boy!!

Anyway, I am quite please with my pregnancy thus far, and I would love to hear more positive comments and positive experience. Sugar has been very supportive and caring, and I feel like the queen of the house, lots of pamper and attention from Sugar, and I love it!

Antibiotics

I got a called from my GP office to ask me to go to get some prescription of antibiotics. Apparently, they have tested my urine and found that I have got some infections. GP said the course of antibiotics will help me to get rid of the bacteria infections.

I went to the GP anxiously and got my prescription. Unfortunately, he prescribed some Penicillins to me. In my pregnancy notes, there is a column highlighted that I am allergy to Penicillins and cannot take any of those. When asked whether the infection would be harmful, the GP said it is common and as long as I complete the course of the antibiotics, it will be cleared. The GP also mentioned that if it is not treated properly, it would be harmful to the newborn during the birth! He did not tell me the name of the infection, and I feel that I need to call my midwife and find out more.

I had to go back the next day and see my GP. What a waste of time...It would be such a big deal if I did not read the labels and started taking the antibiotics. So the next day, I was given another type of antibiotics, and I will need to take the pills for three weeks.

Let's hope it is something minor and would not affect my pregnancy. Let's pray!

Valid excuses...

Being pregnant means, I can go to work slightly later than usual by just mentioning about attending my antenatal appointment.

It is also means that I have valid reason to go off early because I am not feeling very well due to the pregnancy.

Not all the time though, it only happens once a month!

I just can't wait to start my maternity leave, I hate this job!

Well done!

I am hitting the twelfth week! This is my final week in the first trimester, which means the risk of miscarriage is lower.

I have also feel more relaxed with the pregnancy, and able to feel that this is an enjoyable stage, therefore, I must enjoy the whole process.

I am reading a pregnancy week-by-week book, so that I have the idea of what is happening inside my womb and the baby's progress. I have also signed up with lots of other pregnancy websites to get as much information as possible. I love all the websites, they are full of good advices, forums where I get to meet other mums-to-be, shopping tips and lots of other useful product information for mother and baby.

I have been receiving free samples, free cuddly toys from those big brands, and I just love all these gifts for new mum! I feel so loved!

Shopping at maternity department!

It is the end of summer sale. It is crazy, and I would feel like crazy if I do not join in the crowd!

So, I went shopping alone, like usual, and bought two maternity tops with bargain prices. One is a checked tops, black and white with lacy collar and it is darling. The other one is a denim empire dress, and I get to wear it with colourful tights. I love its comfort cut and fabric to.

Did not get any shoes, and I guess I am into flats and nothing exciting anymore. I wear my Converse all the time, and perhaps it is time to gets some new Converse. That, I will have to bring Sugar with me!!

No news is good news...

I am fit and well, and still eat like a pig sometimes!

A mother's instinct...

I keep having the feeling that I am having a girl.
Sugar said that too, and let's see.
Anyway, I do not want to get too obsessed with this 'baby gender' issue.
If we are expecting a girl, then she will be the little princess. If Little B is a boy, then he will be the King of the house, and old parents of both sides of the family will pamper this little King of the house!

To little B, we just can't wait to see you! Love you loads!

Little B's first portrait!

Went for my first dating scan :)

It is such a good experience. It is the first time that we saw our little B, moving and kicking. So cute, little hands and little feet! The sonographer is very gentle and friendly too.

We are allowed to buy the ultra scan snaps, at £5.00 each, and 3 for £10.00. We bought all the three snaps and cannot stop admiring the pictures.

It is amazing, and today, I am at 11 weeks and 2 days. I will have my next ultra scan at 20 weeks, and hopefully at that time, we would be able to find out the sex of the baby.

I baked a walnut cake...

Today, I enthusiastically baked a sponge walnut cake. Very delicious was the comment given by my colleague who got the chance to try it, made me so happy.

I want to learn to bake more so that when Little B arrives, I can bake lots of nice fairy-tale themed cakes for special occasions, such as birthdays and Easter! That will be great fun!

A small announcement...

I have made a small announcement to my co- workers about my pregnancy news. Every one is happy for me, and that made me really happy as well. I am sure this pregnancy will go smoothly and full of new discoveries for my life!

I have also received a small gift sent by Cow& Gate when I signed up to become its member. It is full of information for mother and baby, it is free. A really good site and I learn so much from the internet!

These two sites are full of promotions and I shop regularly in Tesco and Boots for day-to-day essentials too.

As I go along, I guess I will be joining more and more!

Nearly to 11weeks

I am nearly to my 11th week, soon I will complete the first trimester, and I am feeling great!

This might be too soon to say...so far, I am not having any morning sickness, or any discomforts. I can eat and sleep very well. Everything seems so fine and I feel very very blessed. The only thing I do not like is to wake up many times during my sleep at night to just go to the toilet. Very very annoying, yet it is one of the signs that my fetus is growing.

Food craving....not so much at this moment. I love all nice things and reading pregnancy magazines and books made me feel fulfilled. I have been learning new things each day, and this is really an exciting stage in my life!

Sugar is a brilliant husband. He gives me all the tender loving care, and I just cannot wait to see him playing with his kid when Little B arrives.

I am happy, it is so complete, with Sugar and myself, and our Little B on the way...

Blood tests!

I am at week 10..

I have gone for another antenatal appointment. This time they took my blood for several blood tests :
1. Blood Group and Rhesus Factor
2. Full blood count ( for iron levels and blood cell volumes)
3. Rubella and antibodies (Immunity to Rubella)
4. Syphilis (STI)
5. Hepatitis B
6. HIV

I feel quite uneasy to have the needle poked through my vein. I guess I will get used to this during pregnancy.

According to my midwife, at about 15 weeks, I will be offered the blood test to screen for Downs Syndrome and Spina Bifida. I do not mind as it does not hurt that badly, I just want to make sure my baby is healthy and fit.

Week 10

These are what I got from my first antenatal appointment. It is a Bounty Pack, full of goody for mum-to-be. It is given free from the NHS. It contains Bounty's week-by-week pregnancy guide, Pampers' Pregnancy Diary, Pampers' Scan Card, Child Trust Fund information pack, magazines and lots of relevant information about nutrition, laundry, clothing and gifts.

My pregnancy notes, which contains all the detailed information about my pregnancy. I am going to carry this when I attend my antenatal appointment throughout the 40 weeks of my pregnancy. I feel very organised and in control with my pregnancy. This is a good start, and I guess I will start to prepare my birth plan early to get everything ready.

When I feel ready, the baby will surely feel ready, and I guess the birth experience will certainly be a very positive one.

This is my very first pregnancy and I want it to be a good experience...
